Simply Amazing LCDTV - samsung ln52a650 review

By chill_dog

When I started looking for a new TV, I had determined I wanted a plasma. Naturally, the Pioneer PRO 110FD was at the top of my list. However, at $4,200 as an open box locally, it wasn't going to end up in my home. I then started looking at the next best thing, the top-of-the-line Panasonics (800U and 850U). After deciding on the 850, I was at the store making final comparisons to the 110 and I wasn't impressed. That's when I noticed a TV next to the 850 that was blowing it away...the Samsung LN52A750. The 750 was rivaling the 110. I was stunned.

After a little research, I found out that the LN52A650 has the same panel as the 750. The only differences were the speakers, some pre-loaded content (art, cooking, etc.), and the design of the frame. Speakers aren't that big of a deal, especially if you plan on getting a surround sound set up. Pre-loaded art? I actually saw a demo of this...couldn't imagine why anyone would sit and watch it. The frame would be a matter of personal preference. The 750's frame is flat, squared off, and larger (wider). The 650's frame curves back a little at the top and bottom, has a slightly curved bottom edge, and is slimmer. The stand is oval versus rectangular on the 750. I chose the 650 mainly because of the frame and stand, although the $200 savings over the 750 didn't hurt.

My digital/HD feed won't be set up for a couple of days, but basic cable looked very good. Color, contrast, etc. all looked great. I didn't watch any sports (football doesn't start for a couple of months), but motion on action shows and commercials was displayed fine; no judder was noticeable to me. Knowing a digital/HD feed is preferred, I expect the picture to only get better. My PS3, connected via HDMI, was stunning. The 650 had no problem with any of the fast motion of the games. BluRay's were equally as stunning. And with regards to black, this TV has deeper blacks than most plasmas, including the Panasonics. The blacks were on par with the 110, which is known for its blacks (hence the "Kuro" name).

Oh, and all of this was out of the box. I was too excited about getting it to take the time to tune it. I've read that this TV generally requires few adjustments out of the box to get it set at optimum settings, but I'll find out for myself tonight when I tune it.

A lot of the reviews I read of this TV seemed to slam the remote. Honestly, I had no problem with it. The buttons are large, clearly marked, and backlit. Back lighting is great to someone like myself who previously didn't have backlit remotes and had to memorize botton locations. The "wheel" that seems to get most of the complaints isn't that bad. I don't have an iPod or any similar device, so rotating a wheel isn't second nature to me; however, I had no trouble using it on the remote. After a couple of times playing with it, I was adjusted to its sensitivity and it became pretty easy to use.

A final note on Amazon (the seller) and CEVA/Eagle (the shipping company). Both are great. Amazon had an unbelievable price and shipped it the day I purchased it. It arrived a day before their estimated arrival date. CEVA called the night before and arranged to call me half an hour before their arrival (ie. no sitting around for hours waiting for them to show). I had wanted to inspect the TV to make sure it wasn't damaged during shipping before I signed for it. Before I could even mention that, the delivery guy said they wanted to open the box and plug in the TV to make sure everything was okay before I signed.

Overall, I would highly recommend the Samsung 650A, as well as getting it from Amazon. You won't be disappointed in any respects.

UPDATE: After having the TV for a couple of weeks, I'd like to add the following. First and foremost, I love this TV. Every time I watch it, I am amazed at the picture this TV generates. With DirecTV, the SD picture looks really good. The digital feed is noticeably better than the regular cable feed; I would expect the same would be true for a digital cable feed. The HD is great; nothing compares.

I tweaked the settings slightly based on CNET's recommendations for HDMI1 (DirectTV). The difference is a little hard to notice, but there. I still think the out-of-the-box settings for this TV are really good. In fact, I use them for HDMI2 (PS3). I do this for gaming, where I find the out-of-the-box settings to be perfect. I would prefer to watch BluRays with settings identical to the TV settings, but I don't want to change them everytime I switch from gaming to movies. Ultimately, I'll probably get a dedicated BD/DVD player since you can adjust the settings for each input individually.

RANDOM SHUT OFF ISSUE FIXED

Just a heads up to anyone owning any size model of the 650 series...

Samsung issued a firmware update, via their website on 4/3/08, that fixes the random shut off problem. You will need a USB flash drive to apply the update via the Wiselink USB port on the TV. This firmware update also enhances the AMP effect on all sets.

Stop your endless searching here! Get back to your loved ones, they miss you!

By J. Scott Hester "J Scott Hester"

After 4 months of exhaustive research - both online and by word-of-mouth - going back and forth between technologies, swamped with 1080-this and refresh-rate-that (if you are reading this, odds are you are as I once was) it was with great trepidation that I at long last clicked on the purchase button for this Samsung 52" TOC LCD beauty.

All my anxiety was for naught.

This is a humdinger of a TV and it worked fantastically right out of the box, no adjustments needed (though of course I had to fiddle with it a bit just to show it who was the boss).

Once it was mounted on our wall (now that was a production) and all the new components were safely stowed in the other room and connected (with a Hot Link Pro Remote Control Booster System; unbelievably worth the money, astounds your friends and works like a star) this TV has become an trusty member of the family or like a faithful family retainer who quietly goes about their work with no fuss.

I will say this, two of the inputs (one HDMI, one composite) aren't functional, but that is being handled by Samsung's delightful tech support (We had a service appointment, but it coincided with a 5 day visit from my parents (well worse than hanging the TV) so we have rescheduled. But I am just being persnickety because we only need three inputs any way.

I digress.

If you are at the end of your tether on your HD search, I feel your pain. I have been there. But this baby will make all that a distant memory.

Oh, as for the Touch of Colour, it's subtle to the point of being unnoticeable and adds an air of class to what would otherwise be a $2500 box hanging on your wall.

Plus, the delivery was awesome. Truly white glove all the way up our three flights of stairs, no added charge (though we bought them lunch).

I will always be thankful to this TV from freeing me from the endless HD comparision hunt.

Good luck with yours.

Brightness sells this LCD - samsung ln52a650

By PickyCustomer (San Diego, CA USA)

This is a rare product in that it is head and shoulders above the competition.

Some background: I've owned a plasma for 5 years. I've loathed LCDs ever since I've had a plasma. When I went out to look for a new TV, I was focused on getting another plasma. I went to a couple of local stores, and found that this Samsung LCD was just so bright. It was much brighter than any plasma, and the blacks were blacker as well (because of the added contrast). So if you're worried that this LCD can't possibly compete with a plasma, let me reassure you of it's torch brightness, and very BLACK blacks.

But don't take my word for it. The proof is in the pudding. I'm quite confident that if you actually see the 650 at a store, you'll come to the same conclusion that I did. As much as the purists like to say that accurate colors or perfect white balance are what it takes to make a great display, in my opinion, it's all about brightness and contrast. When you see a sunset that you perceive as sun-bright, against a backdrop of a dark violet sky within which you can actually make out the dark details, you know you've found your perfect display.

Pros:
- Torch bright
- Black blacks

Cons:
- Unlike a plasma, this display does not yield the same quality at all horizontal angles. If you aren't watching it dead center, it doesn't have the same punch. This shouldn't be a problem, because the 650 comes with a stand that swivels from side to side. But if you're flat mounting it, and someone is watching off angle of more than perhaps 15 degrees, they'll notice. It's not nearly as bad as a DLP rear projection TV, but it is perceptible as a lightly washed out picture.
- The TV is very slow to start up. If I have the input set to my PC (via DVI), it takes 11 full seconds from power ON press to seeing the desktop on the LCD. In contrast, my five year old Pioneer did the same thing in perhaps 5 seconds. So this is excessive.

I'm still giving this 5/5 stars because the cons are pretty minor compared to the unbelievably satisfying picture experience.

I also want to add that the CEVA delivery experience was the best I've ever had. My old plasma was delivered (from Dell) by one guy dragging it to my front door. From there, I had to unpack and test, after the delivery guy was gone. In contrast, CEVA delivered this LCD with two guys carrying it into my family room, taking it out of the box, and allowing me to attach it to my PC for some initial testing... amazing. Amazon.com/CEVA really hit it out of the park on the purchase experience. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another large piece of electronics from Amazon.

Amazon has the best customer service I've EVER experieced

By DSN (Brooklyn, NY)
I ordered this TV and love it. However, this review about amazon not the TV because I am truly amazed at the level of service they provided (not to mention the most competitive price I found anywhere on-line or at stores).

I was a bit apprehensive purchasing such a big-ticket item on-line and almost every step of the way, I was waiting for the "problems" I might face (to compensate for the cost savings). My TV was not in stock but "no problem," it ended up arriving exactly when they said it would. While awaiting it's arrival, the TV went down in price. Again, "no problem," I called and not only did they take the difference off the price, the customer service rep told me that I should keep checking because the price guarantee was good for a month (and I'd get a refund every time it's reduced).

When my TV did arrive it was unpacked by the delivery guys who were careful and considerate. However, after the delivery company left, I couldn't find the manual that comes with the set (big problem). It may have been misplaced, it may have fallen out of the box before it arrived, or it may never have been in the box. I guess I'll never know and it really doesn't matter. What I do know is that when I called amazon they were very helpful, gave me instructions on how to find the manual on-line and then, sent me a 10% refund/discount on the TV to compensate for the inconvenience (not an insignificant amount to have taken off the price).

Since then I check amazon before I buy anything from anywhere else! (and by the way, I know this review sounds very "over the top" with compliments, but I swear I don't work for amazon or even know anyone who does)

Been waiting to pull the trigger for years. No regrets!,

By shredCity "cityShred" (Los Angeles, CA)

I really have no regrets about the purchase of this television. Go with the 52 if your room can handle the extra size...there is a perceptible difference in overall experience. Sports and motion shots are outstanding. The NBA finals, Euro 2008, US Open Golf, and Wimbledon (satellite HD broadcast) were just plain amazing on this set. Not to mention Planet Earth in Blu-ray--absolutely stunning.

I did strongly consider a Pioneer Elite plasma, as its black levels are the best in the business and admittedly the picture is superior. However, it's tough to justify the premium in price (2.5 times) over the Samsung. The LN52A650 has all of the requisite ports and connections that any audio/video buff would care for, and it has performed flawlessly since CEVA delivered it to my home. Superb value and overall experience. I have to say that I even like the touch of color... it's subtle, and up close it looks kind of like hand blown glass...

WOW, simply amazing - samsung ln52a650 review

By I. A. Goulet "StagattoVII"

Ok let me start by saying that i own the new 50 inch plasma that is only a month old. great picture yes? OH yes, sweet and awesome! No complaints there at all. As a matter of fact i gave the plasma a 5.

Now this LCD..Sweet goodness have mercy. A lot would like to say that plasma's are better and what not, and i remember Bestbuy reps telling me they won't get an lcd until they can produce the same amount of black level as a plasma. Enter the Samsung 6 series LCD with 120 hertz.

The black level actually surpass my plasma. Yes you heard me right, they SURPASS THEM. The picture for some reason also is able to do more realistic colors! Sounds too good to be true, doesn't it? It get's better.

You may have seen the 120 hertz running on a sony at your local bestbuy or circuitcity, correct? Most either loved it or hated it. Now i was one who hated it because i thought it made movies look like Hallmark films. Again, enter the Samsung 6 series. I was going to turn it off as soon as it arrived, but i left it on so my wife could see. Then to my surprise, i notice that yes it has 120 hertz, but it doesn't have the Hallmark film affect. say what?! The 120 hertz on this t.v. is a tweaked version that makes your motion upscale to 120 frames per second without that nasty hallmark film look. Simply amazing. It really is a must see!

Overall i would give this t.v. a 6 out of 5 if i could. Don't waste any more time looking for a t.v. in HD. This is it. Don't get a plasma, get this one. I promise you will not regret it.

Note: i achieve getting the most realistic colors by modifying my settings. The default settings are not set to realistic colors. That goes for my plasma as well.

Buy this TV, seriously!,

By Brian Cornell

The conclusion of my research and ending up with this TV: You Want This TV!

I will explain my reasoning below, but if you are looking for a large high definition TV, it is a waste of money to buy anything but this TV. You will get the highest quality TV on the market, and it won't cost as much as some of the other name brand TVs.

I did a lot of research before buying a TV like this. I wanted a TV that would be worthy of blu-ray, the PS3, and HD cable. I looked into plasma, projection, and LCD TVs. I looked at reviews from numerous places. I compared TVs in stores, and compared specs online. This TV consistently came on top, so I ultimately went with it, and I made the right decision.

First of all, let me tell you about black. Black is a relative thing. If you turn out the lights at night and cover your eyes, that is a good approximation of true black. If you were to turn on most LCD TVs now, just with a black screen, they would look white in comparison. Now this TV isn't perfect, there is still some light leakage, but it would be a dark gray. When I compared the TV in stores, I could tell how good it was. When the demo video went to a black screen between clips, this TV looked like it had turned off, while the other TVs had a more traditional LCD "black" screen look. This excellent black level contributes greatly to the experience of movies in dark scenes.

Now let's talk about clarity. The picture on this TV is so clear, the first time I plugged in my new HD cable box, it seemed more like a window than a TV. The algorithms in this TV make even standard definition content look great, but high def content looks amazing. If you've heard people tell you not to get blu-ray because it doesn't look much better than a DVD, it's because they are not using this TV. But you definitely don't need to throw away your DVD collection when you get this TV. The clarity and quality of the picture get enhanced by this TV, and you'll notice details that you didn't know were there. When you apply these enhancements to blu-ray, it is as good if not better than watching a movie in a theater.

Now, why the LN52A650 rather than the LN52A550 at a lower price? What you get in the 650 model is the 120Hz refresh with an algorithm to interpolate frames. This may not seem like a big deal, but it does produce a more compelling and engaging experience. It's hard to put your finger on it, but it just looks better. I personally have vision very sensitive to low refresh rates, and I find this TV much more comfortable to watch. The added price of the 650 is well worth the enhanced quality.

All of the fancy features of the TV (infolink, etc) are not important. They are just feature candy. With or without them, this TV would still be by far the best you can buy. It is about picture quality, and this TV exceeds all expectations. In fact, I normally use the TV on fairly low quality settings to save power, and it is still by far the best TV quality I have seen.

My recommendation for you if you are considering this product is to go visit your local Best Buy and look at the HDTV selection, and see if they have this TV. If they do, look at it for a while. Compare it. You will see how excellent the picture quality is. Then come back to Amazon and buy it, since the price is better here and you get great white glove delivery.

Oh, and don't worry about the "touch of red" if it doesn't match your decor. You can barely tell that it's there. It's not nearly as well defined as it looks in the pictures online.

More than I expected!

By Jeff W. Johnson (Philadelphia, PA)

Three months of researching TVs. Countless trips to BB and CC... Finally I clicked to purchase. A week later we got the LN52A650. Its "touch of color" is understated and not the flame red I feared; barely noticeable but noticeable. You can read other reviews about the guts of the set. I understand it and let me assure you that it has the nuts (and bolts) to backup its pretty bezel. What's the bottom line?

1. Image is great. On both standard definition TV sources and especially HD. Minimal pixilation is noted from regular ol' TV broadcasts.

2. My progressive scan DVD player looks wonderful. A blueray player looks stunning (my neighbor brought his over), but I'm very happy with the definition of my 480p output.

My decision was between this set and the BR4... I'm not disappointed at all, and I don't think you will be either!

Simply beautiful - samsung ln52a650

By Keith S. Napolitano

All of the other reviews here get into the details, so you can read those if you are looking for more information. I looked at TV's for 2 months before I chose this one, and it is simply the best looking TV I have ever seen. The picture is breath taking, and connections are plentiful. The only thing I don't like is the remote control. The wheel that other people are talking about is pretty pathetic, but as long as you don't 'spin' the wheel and just click on it as though it were arrows, it works fine. Definitely not worth giving this TV anything less than 5 stars. If you are debating about any other TV, just make your life easier and get this one, you will NOT be disappointed.

Worth every penny - samsung ln52a650

By H. Barrientos-Bullock "The last Lombax"

I did my research before buying this Display, and I have to say it is spectacular!! Shortly after receiving it and my HDMI cable , I connected the PS3 to try out Ratchet and CLank:Future Tools of Destruction. I am an avid Ratchet & Clank head, and I had this game for a year, waiting for the correct TV.

I am so glad I waited. It's so crisp and smooth it makes you realize exactly what they mean when they said the PS3 was the future of gaming. At least graphically, you can tell the amount of work put in to each image by the amount of detail this display captures and re-renders for unbelieving eyes to see.

I almost nearly got the LN-T5271F as it was priced similarly and was just under the LED backlit 81 Series, when I stumbled upon the A650. It was sheer luck and it is a replacement for the 71 Series, hands down. I still need to go in and do some manual settings, but for now, Ratchet & Clank, and even Heavenly Sword, are hands down spectacular on this display. The Level of detail amazing.

And I have also just received a refund $85 as the price dropped within 30 days

It can't get any sweeter than that.

My Dream TV at last!!!, - samsung ln52a650 review

By S. Song (Rochester Hills, MI USA)

First I would like to mention the delivery service with CEVA was excellent! I ordered the TV through Amazon on 4/23/2008 (Wed) and received an email for delivey scheduling which was received on 04/25/2008 (Fri) 8am. If I had checked my email that morning I might have been able to schedule the delivery for that day and enjoyed the TV during the weekend. But I found the email late in the afternoon and scheduled a delivery for 04/28/2008 (Mon). Delivery was prompt and on time and even gave me a 1 hour notice phone call before they came by. They were curtious and very professional.

I have been waiting and waiting to buy a HD LCD TV and I am so glad I waited to buy the LN52A650. Like every one says this is an amazing TV! I cannot stress enough how great the picture looks. It is just breath taking when I watch HD broadcast (especially sports) and up convet DVD movies through PS3(did not have chance to watch Blu-ray yet). The default setting of the picture was a bit too bright for me so I played with the setting a bit and got the picture that I wanted. One thing that I notice is improvement in AMP feature when comparing to LNT5271FN. I have not seen any TBE in this one but I do remember seeing some TBE in LNT5271FN when I was in BB to compare the two. I've read that Samsung released a new firmware for LNT5271FN that minimize TBE but I was not able to compare.

I think Samsung's philosophy of thinking that a TV set is also a furniture when turned off really paid off. I just love the contemporary look of the Touch of Color design on the 650. Just having this TV set displayed in the living room makes the room so cool!!! The red is almost not noticable when the room is dark. But when the room is bright or if you have sun light coming through then the red becomes more noticable which i think is just fabulous.

I think quite a lot of people are comparing and deciding whether if they should buy LNT5271FN or LN52A650 just like i did. As most of you know both TVs do have issues. 5271 has the dead pixel issue and the 650 has the auto reset (turn on/off) issue. If you think about these issues, it made sense to me that the 650 issue is a minor one compared to the 5271. I have not seen any auto resets happening to mine yet. However, even if I do see one I can just make frimware update and the issue is solved. The dead pixel issue on the 5271 was more serious because you needed to exchange the LCD panel which is major change and very time consuming. Also, just by comparing the specs it made sense to buy the 650 because of the improvement in the picture quality (Dynamic contrast ratio, increased color range...etc) compared to 5271. The question is do I really notice the difference in this when I watch TV??? probably not since the human eye can only detect a limited quantity of colors. But, I still recommend the 650 because I do see an improvement in AMP which did bother me on 5271. Yes, the 650 does cost a bit more than the 5271 when I compare the price in Amazon (roughly $200~$300) but I think it is well worth the extra bucks.

I'm excited to watch my first Blu-ray movie tonight on my NEW DREAM TV!!! (Will post reviews or coments after watching Blu-ray)

Update:

I bought my first Blu-ray movie "300" and watched it last night. I have to say I am extremely satisfied with the picture quality, especially the movement with AMP turned on.

When I watched "Pirates: Dead Man's Chest" on 5271 in BB, I noticed a lot of TBE when AMP was set on High. On 5271 the TBE did reduce when AMP was turned off or on Low setting, but you lose the crisp edge cutting 120Hz picture effect (some call it "Soap Opera" effect) which is a main reason why you buy 120Hz LCD TVs. Of course since I did not watch the same movie with mine it's hard to say if TBE was gone in 650. However, in battle scenes in "300" when movment is pretty fast, I was not able to see any TBE issues even with AMP on High.

This is totally my personal opinion but I think Samsung weakened??? the AMP setting on 650 comapred to 5271 to get rid of the TBE issues or at least that is how I feel after watching blue-ray movies. For example I felt that the AMP High setting on 650 is more equivalant to Medium setting in 5271 and so on which explains why I have not seen TBE yet. This does not mean that the picture looks bad in 650. For me, the AMP High setting on 5271 was too strong and took away the cinema feel when watching movies and gave a feeling that peolple were floating and gliding around when moving because it was TOO smooth. In 650 you still see the AMP effect but it tends to be a bit less stronger(but strong enough to give the 120Hz feel) which is actually what I prefer.

Best TV ever - better than plasma

By D. DiMarzio "David"

Amazon is the best place to buy a TV. I ordered this on a Tuesday and was watching TV Friday evening. Free shipping that only took 3 days?...WOW The Picture quality is excellent, and I believe it's better than plasma, trust me I own one, much brighter, no glare, weighs less and saves you $$ on electricity. What more can you ask for, amazing.

Don't hesitate on the price because if the price goes down within 30 days of purchase they will refund you without question, trust me I've already received 2 rebates totaling $260.00.

This TV is perfect!!!, - samsung ln52a650

By Joe Mantiera "Joe"
I ordered this tv and just got it today. From what I have seen so far, this is by far the best deal I have ever gotten. The price on amazon was about 300 dollars cheaper then I have found anywhere else and I saved on sales tax and shipping.( the price dropped 243 dollars since i ordered it and Amazon quickly gave me a refund without any hassle at all). The delivery guy came today and took it out of the box and made sure everthing was perfect with it before he left. He also took the box and garbage with him.
I fired it upand the picture is absolutely beautifull. I am have it set up with a Blu-ray player and a Onkyo 7.1 surround sound system. It looks and sounds amazing. I recommend this to anyone looking for a new tv.

Home Theatre Heaven - Samsung ln52a650

By Rocket Surgeon "Crazy Eddie"

My Series 6 52" Samsung LCD must already have the new firmware, as in many weeks I've not seen any auto-shutoff yet. The 120Hz, 4ms, Touch of Red is, for my opinion, the BEST LCD on the market, surpassed only by the Series 7 add-ons, but still has the exact same picture quality.
I purchased a Samsung upscaling 1080P DVD player that was perfectly mated straight out of the box, and the TV remote already worked for both.
This TV puts all other brands currently available to shame. I checked them all out at the local Best Buy, then saved a ton of money at Amazon. I waited years for the house big screen, having a dolby speaker setup already built into the ceiling when finishing the rec room. IMAX has got nothing on my cave as the 1000 watt surround system gives me perfect Home Theatre Heaven. Worth every penny, and other brands costing more will be a year or three catching up. Thank you Samsung, Amazon and 6ave. I can rewatch my entire DVD collection like I'm sitting at the IMAX seeing it for the first time. Not a single complaint.

Best TV on the Market Today - samsung ln52a650

By G. Aven (CA, USA)
I am an IT guy who researches for months before I make a purchase like this. This TV is everything that it is advertized to be. The picture is the best on the market today. I watched it side by side with the Sony XBr4 and several other leading brands. The touch of red is very stylish but not over bearing. I have a blu-ray playstation 3, and HD FIOS and the TV picture is perfect. I also have an amplified external antenna and the HD picture over the air is awesome as well. What else is there to say.

The only complaint I have over my old Sony HD is that the sound component in does not work unless there is also a video source. In other words I can not just plug my ipod or sound from my computer without also having a video signal. Oh well I guess I will have to also buy a 7:1 home theater system. I was using an old amp and speakers.

(1 Month update) - Connected my HP dv6000 laptop with internal HDMI HD card and the resolution is fantastic. Connected new Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ5 with 16:9 pictures at 7.5 M and 4:3 at 9.1M also fantastic picture. My iPod now plays music if also showing a slide show so I have not upgraded my sound system yet. The SRS surround sound option is also great. The Playstation web browser is extremely clear (1080p), better than my HP laptop which does have a lower resolution (720p).

I have seen some comments about "jitters" for the NBA playoffs, this is probably someone who did not set their auto motion setting correctly, or does not have HD. My FIOS HD for the playoffs is unbelievable (no "jitters" or "flashes" as one reviewer noted) it is so good. My delivery was also flawless, early, efficient, and clean, with pleasant people.

Amazing TV - Samsung ln52a650 review

By S. Delahoyde

Nothing short of incredible. The picture, particularly when you're watching a Blu-ray movie, is just jaw-dropping. And it even handles standard-def stuff off the cable box (even after the heavy compression with the DVR) really well. 'Touch of Color' thing is nice too -- very subtle, but sets it apart from other TVs and makes the set look a little more like a piece of furniture. Only gripe at all is with the remote, particularly when using the little round slide wheel. It could use a little more resistance, as it tends to fly by the option you're wanting a little too quickly. Luckily, it also operates as a push button device, so you can just as easily scroll up and down by clicking on the wheel.

We ordered (straight from Amazon) on a Wednesday and it said that it would be about two weeks before it shipped. Turned out, it was there by the following Monday, which made us very, very happy. Been loving the thing ever since.
